Tribute to a Veteran Scribe

As one of the most senior journalists, with a service spanning more than five decades, the demise of Ramakrishnamacharyulu is an immense loss to the field. He was 74. Due to age-related issues, he breathed his last on last Wednesday of February, leaving everyone closely associated with him for decades in deep shock. Known for his linguistic proficiency, Ramakrishnamacharyulu did not confine himself to Telugu journalism; he contributed to many Kannada magazines by extending his reach. He started his journalistic career way back in the early seventies with Andhra Prabha and continued till the last, and his career ended with Vijaya Kranthi. Even at an advanced age, he did not hesitate to work on night shifts and run for buses to his house late at night. This speaks of his enthusiastic nature, not to lag, and to be in the field as long as his health permitted. As a sports expert, he enriched the readers with his incisive and analytical writings. In his vast career, Aacharyulu headed many news desks, including sports. From cinema to international affairs, he proved his mettle by constantly extending his horizons. In a nutshell, he can be called a man for many subjects. From news writing to contributing to many special pages on different subjects, he proved his versatility in vernacular journalism. For a newspaper, everyone’s contribution matters most, and there lies Acharluyu’s indispensability as his presence at the desk itself was a great relief for the heads because of his knowledge and proactive nature to involve himself and help the desk meet the deadlines. His congenial nature and knowledge of the subject endeared him to one and all. In Acharlulu’s death, we lost one of those veterans whose service and knowledge matter most to most of the present generation of journalists. —–Courtesy: The Pioneer
